Standards for Quality Improvement
WFME
The College of Medicine, Rangsit University, and the Institute of Clinical Medicine, Department of Medical Services-Rangsit University, have consistently conducted educational quality assurance and improvement annually. They have been evaluated by the Office of the Higher Education Commission (OHEC) and the Office for National Education Standards and Quality Assessment (ONESQA) to enhance educational quality. Ensuring the curriculum’s comprehensiveness is a significant primary mission of the institution.
For the Doctor of Medicine program, the Consortium of Thai Medical Schools (COTMES) has adopted international standards for medical education, specifically the “Basic Medical Education WFME Global Standards for Quality Improvement, The 2015 Revision” by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME), for quality assessment. Recognizing the benefits of these evaluation standards, the College of Medicine and the Institute of Clinical Medicine, Department of Medical Services-Rangsit University, have implemented them as tools to develop the Doctor of Medicine program to meet international standards.
Executive Summary
The College of Medicine, Rangsit University, has periodically updated its Doctor of Medicine program. The current curriculum was established in 2012, with a new revision made in 2016 and implemented in the 2017 academic year. However, during the same period, the Medical Council of Thailand issued new guidelines for the establishment and revision of Doctor of Medicine programs and the accreditation of medical institutions under Announcement 12/2560. These guidelines align with the international standards for medical education set by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME), specifically the "Basic Medical Education WFME Global Standards for Quality Improvement, the 2015 Revision." Thus, the Doctor of Medicine program must comply with these international standards. The key points of the 2018 curriculum revision are as follows:
- Revised the objectives of the curriculum for clearer evaluation, following the recommendations of the WFME evaluators in November 2016.
- Removed the admission requirement regarding the science-mathematics study plan.
- Revised the overall credit structure, reducing the total credits from 260 to 254.
- Updated general education courses to align with the revised general education curriculum (2018 edition).
- Adjusted the credits in the specific courses category from 223 to 218.
- The Doctor of Medicine Program, College of Medicine, Rangsit University, has been accredited according to the TMC.WFME.BME. Standards (2017) for medical education.
